About Us |
Originally opened in 2006. La Sandia is our lodging/restaurant/activities center. We pride ourselves on eco friendly lodging and activities. Our main activity being kiteboarding offcourse. La Sandia is owned and operated by Lucie Cordier & Kent Graninger whom met and started dating in Costa Rica. Lucie manages the lodging and restaurant along with scheduling tours/activities. Kent manages the kite school and shop along with other activities/tours. PASA certified and a professional kiteboarder, he is able to teach many facets of kiteboarding and is very knowledgable with the gear. Damien Cordier is Lucie's brother whom owns and operates our boat used for kiteboarding lessons and tours/activities. He also helps with instruction. |
Location |
Located in the NW corner of Costa Rica is a bay called Bahia Salinas. Know to be the 9th windiest place in the world. Our season starts Nov runs to July. We have 25mph+ wind everyday all day long. Our average kite used is 8m. Here your guranteed to kite everyday all day. Our bay offers two flat water riding spots one being an island with beutiful water and white sand beach. This is where we perform our kiteboarding lessons on this private island named Balonas Island with a 16' zodiac. The main kitebeach is sideshore and very long. Never too crowded. |
Getting here |
The main town close to us is called La Cruz. Just couple miles south of the Nicaragua border. Have many groceries, internet cafe, and bus station. We are located 20min drive along the bay, can take taxi, bus, our shuttle. Bus runs right by us and runs every 2hrs $3 Taxi are all over town $15 Our shuttle $15 Our closest internationl airport is Liberia (LIR). From there we are 1.5hr drive north. Can rent car, take taxi, or we provide shuttle service. Rental cars cost average $60/day Hired taxi holds 3-people can arange your pickup runs $50 to$60 For our shuttle holds 6-people plus gear $80 Next closest international airport is in San Jose (SJO). Is 4.5 hr drive north. Can take bus, taxi, rental car, or we provide shuttle service. Bus will take 6hrs $10 Rental car cost average $60/day Hired taxi pre-arranged pickup $200 Our shuttle $275 Traveling in Costa Rica is very safe. People here are not dangerous, offcourse take normal precautions to not leave belongings un-attented. If taking bus from airport, must first take Taxi from airport to the bus station. From (LIR) taxi to bus station is $15, from (SJO) to bus $20. |
